First PISLM Meeting held in Port of Spain

Partnership Initiative on Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) held its first regional meeting Friday May 6th, 2011 at the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre in St Ann’s Port of Spain.  PISLM, a partnership formed to support combating degradation in Caribbean, is forging ahead with the implementation of their objectives to facilitate exchanges of good urban and land management practices in the region.

An outcome of a Technical Sub-Regional working group of the Caribbean Small Island Development States (SIDS) Programme,  the partnership will in all likelihood be headed from the existing Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development (CNIRD) located in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.  Members include the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Concil to Combat Disertification (UNCCD), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), CARICOM Secretariat, UWI, GTZ and Caribbean SIDS.

For more information about the PISLM, its mission and activities you can navigate to the partnership’s website at; http://cnirdregional.org/PISLM/ or read about the meeting in articles published in both Trinidad and Tobago’s Newsday and Guardian Newspapers.
