URBANIZATION AND URBAN POLICY
10TH -12TH JUNE 2020

This Caribbean Urban Forum is an annual event that brings together urban planners, municipal managers, environmental experts, policy makers, academics and allied professionals in an effort to address urban issues in the region. Year 2020 is a significant one for the Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF 10) since it marks the Forum’s 10th anniversary. The 2020 CUF is being held in Guyana where it first began in 2011.

The selected theme for CUF 10 ‘Urbanization and Urban Policy’ is particularly relevant, given that the Caribbean is one of the fastest urbanizing regions in the world. How we manage the process of urbanization will determine if our human settlements will be safe, resilient and sustainable (SDG 11) and if our countries will achieve targets in the other Sustainable Developmental Goals. There are various understandings of the nature of urbanization and various policies to deal with it. Guyana for example has a Green State Development Strategy that considers an urban future of inclusive and green settlements.

The event will be held between 10th -12th June 2020, with the possibility of pre- and post-conference events. CUF 10 is co-hosted by the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Studies of the University of Guyana and the Caribbean Network for Urban and Land Management. Local partners include the Guyana Planners Association, Central Housing & Planning Authority and the City Council of Georgetown.

A Call for Abstracts will be circulated soon. We hope to see you in Guyana
